it’s my name asked:
I know that the Palm Pre has not come out yet, and the Palm website hasn’t really put too much out, but has anyone heard if you can unlock the phone? I know that Sprint got the contract for the phone, but I have Verizon. I desperately want that phone, but am not willing to switch, as I have heard that Sprint has bad coverage. I know that both are CDMA, so I know that you can for some phones, but does anyone know if you can the Pre. HELP! Please save my day!
Yeah, Blackberries are no good. My dad has the Storm and I **** that phone. It takes forever to load and sometimes you have to click on things multiple times before anything happens. I really hope that I can switch the Pre over to Verizon. I was bummed about the iPhone, but when I saw this phone and that it was it CDMA, I got a little hopeful. Let me know if you get the Pre to work on Verizon. Thanks!

CDMA systems tend to be much more proprietary than GSM systems. Verizon is unlikely to allow a Sprint phone on their system, and there’s not necessarily any way to unlock it, in the sense of GSM unlocking.
Of course, it is probably more hackable than the usual CDMA cellphone, being a PDA phone and all… so it might be possible. I would personally wait and see if anyone manages this.
In fact, I may do this myself.. I’m currently on Verizon, and looking for a good PDAphone, a market Verizon doesn’t seem to address (sorry, Blackberrys just don’t cut it), since my Palm 700p died last fall. Top contenders are the Pre and the G1, but neither Sprint nor T-Mobile has good coverage in my area (they don’t reach my house). So I’m not sure which way to go, but a Pre on Verizon might solve the problem.
