As of right now you can’t use the US version’s of the Palm Pre as its only made for the CDMA network (Spring, Verizon). However it was first released over in Europe; so I would assume if you can get your hands on a European Pre (as they use SIM cards over seas) and find someone that is able to unlock it then yes you could.
But I would imagine that would take some hard work and searching since it is fairly new.
No. Sprint phones (and Verizon phones) cannot be unlocked. They can only be used with their specific carrier.
You can pay AT&T their early termination fee and switch to Sprint or wait until next year and switch to Verizon when it gets the Palm Pre.
Just get the iPhone. The Palm Pre is exclusive for Sprint and Bell(Canada) with both run on CDMA networks. AT&T runs on a GSM network. All phones don’t have access to SIM cards and the Pre will most likely never come out for any other service. The iPhone is a bit over rated and people will tell you this and tell you that but in reality its a never ending phone that continues to grow and sweep the nation. Its rather affordable and has very much to offer. More then sprint does and that is for sure.
There are a few exceptions to phones that may be unlocked such as the Blackberry Storm and few others that have the capability to run on either network.
